Now that he is 58-years-old, and has accomplished the incredible feat of being a part of the creation of 100 films, Chan recently announced that he will be retiring from making action movies.  Jackie Chan has been known for doing his own stunts on many occasions throughout his years as an action star, and his injuries have taken a toll on him.  Now, he wants to take a step back and do more films like The Karate Kid, to show the world that he isn't just an action or comedic actor, but rather, a legitimate, serious actor capable of winning prestigious awards.  In his eyes, he wants to become the "Asian Robert De Niro."

Here's what Jackie had to say:

"This will be my last action movie (referring to Chinese Zodiac).  I tell you, I am not young any more ... I am really, really tired.  The world is too violent now. It's a dilemma because I like action, but I don't like the violence.  I don't just want to be an action star ... I want to be a true actor. I want to be an Asian Robert De Niro.  I want to get rid of my image. So, for the last ten years I've done other films like 'The Karate Kid' where I'd rather play an old man. I want the audience to know I'm not just about fighting or comedy, also I can act."

It will be sad to see Jackie leave the action scene, but he has to move on eventually.  He demonstrated his ability to act in a serious role in The Karate Kid, so his future as a serious dramatic actor is already a bright one.
