With the high number of awards singer/songwriter Adele brings in, it's no surprise that her music sells at an enormous rate. But what may come off as particularly impressive is the recent achievement of her  album 21 moving past Michael Jackson's iconic Thriller in the United Kingdom.

Sales numbers from the Official Charts Company show that Adele sold more than 4.2 million copies of her album, edging the King of Pop by 500 records. The album is said to be selling more than 20,000 copies a week.

Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot commented on the recent feat,

"To add to her many landmark records, Adele's achievement in overtaking Thriller in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable".

He continued, "Thriller has long been recognized as one of the most iconic albums of all time - there is now no doubt that 21 can be spoken of in the same breath."

21 held the number one spot for up to 23 weeks, ultimately surpassing other hit albums including Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon and Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms.

The artist also made headlines when she went double-platinum on iTunes.
