Miley Cyrus has an affinity for small tattoos with strong meanings, like her gay marriage tattoo on her middle finger. Miley added the equals sign tattoo to her collection back in August.

The 19-year-old entertainer has become an activist for gay marriage, appearing in the "no h8" campaign, and she's now penned a story explaining the tattoo in the recent issue of Glamour.

In the article Miley explains that the image of not getting to marry the person you love makes her sick to her stomach. She also expressed the overwhelming feeling of sadness she got when she posted the photo of her new tattoo on Twitter and got responses saying, "What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!'"

She explains in the article, "I believe every American should be allowed the same rights and civil liberties. Without legalized same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple. How is this different than having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin color?"
