Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Knicks. Following the Knicks' disappointing loss to the Miami Heat Monday night, Amar'e Stoudemire punched the glass case covering a fire extinguisher while walking back to the team's locker room.
Miami Dade paramedics responded to the accident and Stoudemire received stitches for a laceration sustained on the inside of his palm. He was seen departing American Airlines Arena with his hand heavily bandaged and his arm in a sling for support.
Stoudemire's status for the remainder of the series is unclear, but Knicks forward Tyson Chandler had this to say,
"He's probably going to be out. I don't know how bad it is. ... Your emotions run high. In a split second, a decision can alter things. You can't fault anybody. We've got to deal with the repercussions."
Extreme frustration seems to be the motive behind Stoudemire's actions, probably stemming from his team going down 0-2 in the series or due to his nine shot attempts compared to the 26 from Carmelo Anthony.
Following the incident Amare apologized via Twitter.
"I am so mad at myself right now. I want to apologize to the fans and my team, not proud of my actions. headed home for a new start."
This morning (May 1), after a huge uproar from the media, Stoudemire took to his Twitter account again, but this time professing his human nature.
"We all have done things out of anger that we regret. That makes us human. Bad timing on my part. Sorry guys. This too shall pass." (Amare Twitter)
This is not the first time the Knicks' 100 million dollar man has made a bonehead decision. Last season he suffered another self-inflicted injury when he attempted an acrobatic dunk during WARM UPS prior to a playoff game against the Boston Celtics.
The Knicks are critically undermanned in the back court - with Jeremy Lin and Iman Shumpert being out due to injury - and now the front court is in trouble with a flu stricken Tyson Chandler and a hurt Amar'e Stoudemire.
The New York Knicks have lost their last 13 playoff games.
Are the Knicks done? What are your reactions towards Amare's antics?
