Natrez Patrick can finally enjoy his SEC championship win after getting his marijuana charge dropped.

The University of Georgia linebacker was one of two players to get arrested by Baron County police. After deciding to get a ride from fellow teammate, Jason Stanley, the pair were pulled over for speeding. What started as a regular traffic stop turned into both men being hauled to jail for various charges. Stanley received charges for a DUI and speeding. Both shared a marijuana possession charge.

However, Natrez’s lawyer-- William Healan, did not see this fitting for his client. He explained to 11alive he felt the athlete should not have been caught up in the mayhem because “There wasn't any evidence against Natrez.”

Healan believed the incrimination was also unnecessary because Patrick did not know Jason had weed in the car, and the amount was not substantial. He called it “a little itty-bitty piece of marijuana leaf."

Stanley’s lawyer, Kevin Christopher, also co-signed him by describing it as “smaller than a penny.” Regardless, he took responsibility for the drugs and pleaded guilty to the possession since they were in his family’s vehicle.

Christopher eventually got the more serious DUI charge dropped for his client. He told the network, We felt like after investigating the case that there really wasn't enough evidence to show that he was impaired.”
