A high ranking official in an Illinois police department is behind bars and his son remains in critical condition after the law enforcement veteran lost it over the 22-year-old boy's attempt to get away with skimming alcohol off of him.

Hours after calling in sick on Monday, December 11, Indian Head Park PD sergeant Raymond Leuser hit a liquor store near his Clearing, Illinois residence. He'd return home with a bottle of Smirnoff that he was looking forward to enjoying, but Leuser's mood was blown when later on in the night he realized something was off about the drink. As it turned out, Leuser's son had at some point emerged from his living quarters in the basement and poured three glasses of the vodka to take downstairs with him. But instead of informing Leuser that he had helped himself to the bottle, the young man replaced the amount the he took with an equal filling of water.

At around 2:30 a.m. Leuser's son ascended back up from the basement only to find his father standing with his back to him in the kitchen. When the 48-year-old Leuser turned around he was holding a gun. The victim says that his father screamed out and then opened fire, hitting him in the midsection. The impact of the shots sent Leuser's son stumbling back down the basement. At this present time, he continues to get treatment at the Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is recuperating from a pair of bullets that are still lodged in his body.

Leuser is being charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm. A guilty conviction could land him in jail for life.
