The controversial Dallas rap phenom Tay-K has now signed a record deal with independent label 88 Classic.

A source confirmed to XXL Magazine this week that the 17-year-old has officially been inked to RCA Records executive J Grand’s label, 88 Classic. Despite the confusion based on the Senior VP of A&R and Marketing’s connection to RCA, he is not signed to RCA Records.

The currently-incarcerated rapper has been making waves all year after releasing his nine-track EP Santana World with the Billboard chart-topping hit, “The Race."

However, Tay-K has been swimming in deep controversy because of his two charges of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.

One of the incidents stems from an alleged robbery of a home in Mansfield, Texas on July 27, 2016, which left 21-year-old Ethan Walker dead. The second comes from a tragic and fatal shooting that left another man dead on April 23, 2017, at a Chik-fil-A in San Antonio, Texas.

Since the announcement of his signing, rumors circulated saying the rapper was released from prison, but they were denied by his manager Ezra Averill via Twitter.

On Dec. 14, the rapper’s team had put out an official re-release of the Santana’s World EP featuring new a remix of “The Race” with 21 Savage and Young Nudy.
