English boxer Stephen Smith's ear was nearly ripped off during the ninth round in a bout against Francisco Vargas on Saturday (December 9) night. Smith's ear was injured earlier in the night, and when Vargas made contact in the ninth round, it split nearly in half.
A doctor advised to end the fight, leading to Vargas being handed a TKO win; the Tijuana-born fighter was already up on the scorecards before the injury.
