A young convict was confronted by the officer he was found guilty of attempting to kill, as he was being hauled away from the Florida courtroom where his sentence was read, on Wednesday, November 29. “I bought a little gift for you,” the Jacksonville cop told 21-year-old Kevin Rojas as he waved a bottle of K-Y Jelly before his face. “You will need it where you are going.”
One morning in March of 2016 Rojas was fleeing from a fight he had with his girlfriend when he sped past the unnamed officer. At the time, the officer was off duty and in the middle of dropping his 14-year-old son at school. But, after witnessing how reckless Rojas was on the road, the undercover decided to pursue the white Cadillac Rojas drove. Upon realizing he was being confronted, Rojas got out of his vehicle, turned towards to the officer's car with a gun drawn, and began firing through the windshield.
While his son managed to go uninjured in the attack, the officer did not. After being hit in the face, stomach, and hand, the officer managed to exchange fire, but Rojas got away by jacking another car. Authorities soon caught up to him back at his home, where he was forced to give himself over after he himself suffered shots to his torso, leg, and hand, in a gun battle.
Rojas was handed down the maximum sentence for each of his convictions, which included, attempted first-degree murder, attempted manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, grand theft auto and fleeing. He will serve life in prison, with the possibility of parole in 25 years.
