Recently, the nominees for all categories of the 2018 Grammys were announced. The ‘Album of the Year’ category was particularly interesting, as no white men were nominated for the first time in 19 years.

The category features only women and people of color. Childish Gambino was nominated for “Awaken, My Love!,” while Jay-Z was nominated for “4:44.” Along with that Lorde was nominated her latest album “Melodrama,” while Kendrick Lamar and Bruno Mars were placed in the category for their albums.

The last time a non-white person won the Album of the Year award was over 10 years ago. With four out of five of the artists nominated being of color, the chance to change that stat is high. Along with the ‘Album of the Year’ category, other categories like “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist” feature mostly people of color and women.
