Apple iPhones have taken over the smartphone space. Since the first generation iPhone was launched in June 2007, we have seen Apple revamp the operating system, functionalities, and the device itself countless times, about once a year. While the features change, develop, and improve, sales also rise fairly consistently - over 210 million iPhones were sold in 2017 alone.

New iPhones are typically around $1000 USD, depending on storage size and a few other features. For instance, the iPhone X, released on November 3, 2017, currently retails at $1149. The previous model, an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 plus, retailed for $699 and $799, respectively, at the time of their release in September 2017. It's distant older cousin, the iPhone 6S, retailed for $750. While these high prices are alarming, consumers have options - the iPhone SE, released in March 2016, was built on the same chip and software as 6S. However, it’s smaller size (4 inches) allows a lower price point than other iPhone models - starting at $399.

Apple has recently announced that they plan on releasing a new model of the iPhone SE, the iPhone SE 2, in 2018. Wistron, one of Apple’s head manufacturing partners, intends on expanding its production space in order to fulfill the anticipated order requests for the new phone. The phone will allegedly use the same chip and software as the iPhone 7, and will again be reasonably priced in comparison to it's slightly larger (4.7 inch) counterparts. Prices are set to start around $450.
