It appears NFL owners are making contingency plans should they decide to move on from Roger Goodell amid the drama surrounding his contract extension.

According to ESPN's Don Van Natta and Seth Wickersham, NFL owners reached out to NBA commissioner Adam Silver to weigh his interest in replacing Goodell as commissioner of the league. However, Silver apparently had zero interest in the position and "immediately said no."

It comes as no surprise that the NFL would love to have Silver as commissioner. After taking over in 2014, Silver has strengthened the influence of the NBA in international markets. Unlike the NFL, Silver has allowed players and teams to address issues in the current social and political climate.

As for the NFL, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made it his mission to stop Roger Goodell's contract extension. According to reports, Jones has linked with several owners who are unhappy with Goodell's handling of issues like players protesting and the Ray Rice controversy.

Despite voting in May to keep Goodell in power, Jones has changed his position following the suspension of Ezekiel Elliott. Jones has even hired high-powered attorney David Boies to look into the matter. However, on Wednesday, November 15, the NFL front office issued a warning to Jones, calling on the owner to stop his antics which are "detrimental to the league's best interests."
