Last week, police in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina learned that they can't just take their eyes off of a suspect they've taken into custody when a man they had just arrested on Lieben Road suddenly drove off in the patrol car he was placed in.

A dashcam recording taken from the incident on Friday, November 10, shows officers working the scene of a burglary they were called to. As the recording plays, four cops can be seen walking back and forth between two cars. Early on in the video, the suspected burglar is removed from the vehicle closest to the police cruiser and brought over to be led into the back seat. The officers then return to resume their investigation.

Moments after he was detained (at around the 2:45 mark) suspect Philip Sprouse managed to take control of the wheel, at which point the dashcam begins recording the ride in motion. The officers are then seen rushing over, but fail to catch up to Sprouse, who jumps the sidewalk and speeds around the cars that were being inspected. Sprouse would barrel through a couple of fences before the cruiser was stopped by a ditch. He'd then exit and make a run for it.

Sprouse was reportedly located and arrested on Sunday. He has been charged with burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, escape and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
