Vic Mensa dropped gems on the state of the prison industrial complex while promoting his debut studio album, 'Autobiography.' Mensa has garnered a reputation for making strong political statements and has proven before that he is willing to look beyond the surface, and toward the underlying issue.

During an interview with HipHopDX, the Chicago born rapper took a firm stance in support of rapper Meek Mill and his disproportionate jail sentence. “The powers that be want Meek Mill to be a slave of the state. Point blank, period,” Mensa said.

“Let’s not forget that a fat cat in a tall building gets paid off of every inmate. In many ways, they've still privatized prisons all across this country. There’s prison labor being used to produce everything from Starbucks cups to pencils. And slave laborers, you know what I’m saying? And they want Meek Mill as a ward of the state. What’s even more convoluted about it is that the judge is a Black woman,” he said. “But this is nothing new … That’s a common function of neocolonialism. The colonized and the oppressed will begin to identify with the oppressors. That’s just classic Stockholm Syndrome type s**t, but it is twisted.”

Do you think Mensa has a good point? Or is Meek Mill's lengthy sentence justifiable? Let us know in the comments.
