A community in Los Angeles is outraged after a local high school allowed a student back into the school after being arrested as a murder suspect in a gang shooting. 18-year-old Cameron Terrell was granted bail after being arrested as the suspected getaway driver in a daytime shooting in downtown Los Angeles that left 21-year-old Justin Holmes dead.

According to authorities, Holmes was walking with two friends when he was confronted by armed suspects demanding to know where they were from. The confrontation ended when one of the armed suspects fired multiple shots at Holmes, killing him. Terrell, who is charged with murder, was granted bail while the two other suspects remained detained. The case has drawn interest because Terrell is a white teen from an affluent suburb, living in a house valued at $2 million, charged in a gang crime involving black teens.

This story shines a light on a crooked bail system that places emphasis on money and often allows guilty men to walk free while innocent men remain incarcerated. Because they don't have the means to make bail or afford proper representation, many never have a chance. Local activists and politicians believe that Terrell's skin color, paired with his economic advantages are the reason he was granted bail while his accomplices were denied.
