Nicki Minaj visited her brother in jail for the first time after he was found guilty in his well-publicized child rape case.
Minaj distanced herself from her brother Jelani Maraj after he was charged with raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter. The rapper had previously paid for his wedding and celebrated his new marriage with her fans on Twitter. Nicki and her mom both went to see Jelani at the Nassau County Jail last week, according to TMZ. Sources claim that the rapper was not crazy about going, but bit the bullet for her mother’s sake.
Jelani was found guilty of predatory sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in a Long Island court last week. The case lasted 3 weeks. He now faces 25 years to life in prison and will be officially sentenced on December 14. Minaj did not testify for her brother during the trial even though previous reports had pointed to her taking the stand on his behalf.
The Nassau County D.A. celebrated the victory after the guilty verdict was handed out. “We hope that today’s verdict will help the family in the healing process,” said Madeline Singas to TMZ last week.
