While the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives does not keep a database that could confirm who the "most armed man in America" is, the person who has earned that nickname among gun enthusiasts, and now the greater public, is a man by the name of Mel Bernstein.

Bernstein, 71, is a gun shop owner from Colorado Springs, CO who doesn't only sell guns, he collects them. And Bernstein doesn't just casually collect guns, he collects a lot of them; having invested millions of dollars into some 4,000 weapons. Bernstein owns handguns and rifles, mortars and machine guns, flamethrowers, bazookas, and other kinds of high powered weapons, including tanks. Aside from his personal arsenal, the Dragonmans owner also has a military museum, a motocross park, a paintball park and six shooting ranges on his 260-acre property.

The popular term used for gun owners like Bernstein is "super-owners." It is reported that about 3 percent of Americans own half of the 265 million guns in the country, with the average so-called "super-owner" possessing about 17 firearms each on average. Bernstein may just be the alpha of them all.

"You get addicted to them. You know, it gets in your blood," Bernstein responds when presented with the statistics.
