Drake announced on Wednesday that he, alongside his business partner Abel "Future" Nur and LeBron James' Springhill Entertainment are set to executive produce and relaunch the UK television series Top Boy. The show can be loosely compared to the HBO hit series, The Wire and will be brought to Netflix with the streaming giant eyeing 2019 as the year to premiere the series. Drizzy told The Hollywood Reporter about his decision to pursue this project. He said, "“That human element drew me in, [...] I started just looking them up. Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous over there? I remember I hit Future, and I was just like, ‘This show is incredible."

Netflix VP of Original Content Cindy Holland pointed to Drake's enthusiasm for the project as the key factor to teaming up. "Drake’s passion for Top Boy was clear from the first conversation, and he really drove its resurrection..."
