Halloween seems to always bring out those who find a necessity to dress up in racially demeaning ways to mock certain groups of people. A police officer at Colin Kaepernick's alma-mater, the University of Nevada-Reno, is being taken to task on social media over his racially insensitive costume mocking the former Wolf Pack quarterback. However, the officer will likely face no punishment for his costume according to UNR spokesperson Kerri Garcia. Garcia claims that "As insensitive and inappropriate as this is, we have no policy that would dictate any disciplinary action." UNR Police Chief Adam Garcia apologized for the photo on Sunday stating:
For those who have seen the Halloween costume of one of our officers apparently mocking a citizen who has chosen to take advantage of his constitutional right to protest, I offer my sincere apologies, [...] Members of our profession are held to a higher standard and denigrating another - on or off duty - is insensitive for its lack of respect and lack of understanding on how others may negatively view their actions and may be impacted.
Colin Kaepernick graduated from UNR in 2010 with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in management. He was a two-time Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year throwing for 10,098 yards and 82 touchdowns over the course of his 4-year collegiate career.
