Jelani Maraj's ex-wife, Jacqueline Robinson, testified in court today and gave details on how she found out Maraj was raping her daughter.

Robinson took to the stand and explained that in 2015, Maraj came home, drunk and enraged because he believed that Robinson's then 11-year-old daughter told Child Protective Services about the abuse. Robinson went on to say that Maraj berated the 11-year-old"

“He was yelling at her, asking her ‘what did you say?’” Robinson said from the witness stand. “He kept badgering her and screaming at her. She said, ‘I didn’t say anything.’ She was very afraid.”

Robinson later asked her daughter about the abuse during a car ride:

“I asked (her) was anything going on with her and Jelani,” Robinson said. “And she said no.”

Social workers later revealed the abuse to Robinson and the authorities took her to daughter to the hospital to administer a rape kit. She then confronted Maraj, who denied the accusations.

Robinson explained, “He said it wasn’t true. I said, ‘well then what did (alleged victim’s brother) see? It wasn’t a figment of his imagination.”

Robinson went on to say that her she Maraj both had an excessive drinking problem and their relationship fell apart before they even got married. She also explained that in 2015 she noticed a change in her kids and would ask her daughter what was wrong. The alleged victim “became very distant and quiet and wanted to be by herself,” Robinson testified. “I would ask her what was wrong, and she would say ‘nothing,’ or she would put her head down.”

Robinson's 10-year-old son also testified and shared details of the alleged rape and what he saw. He stated that his sister's pants were "around her ankles" and Maraj's underwear was "close to his knees." "I thought it wasn’t right," the boy testified. "It looked weird to me, so I ran upstairs."

He went on to explain that Maraj slapped him "about 10 times" after he found him. "He asked me if I had seen anything. I said, 'Yes.' He slapped me on the cheek." The boy also detailed hearing his sister's bed squeaking at night.
