According to reports, a former coach and student aide in Maryland named Carlos Bell was convicted of sexually assaulting 42 boys who attended the school. It was also noted that the 30-year-old told the police that he is HIV-positive.

Carlos Bell was indicted by the State Attorney’s Office for Charles County on 206 counts of sexual assault. The assaults allegedly took place from May 2015 to June 2017, and involved victims who ranged from the ages of 11 to 17. 14 of the victims were unidentified, while 28 of the victims were identified. NBC News reported that Bell was arrested by police for child pornography in July 2017. From there, a search of his home was conducted, where authorities found child pornography on his computer, which included him allegedly having sex with a child at the middle school he worked in.

Earlier this year, an apology was issued by Charles County Schools Superintendent Kimberly Hill, who said, “In an organization that is all about our children, these allegations are horrifying.”

She went on to say, “To our parents and our community, who put their faith and trust in us to safeguard their children, I apologize on behalf of Charles County Public Schools." Police have not revealed if any of the 42 victims contracted HIV from Bell.
