Frank Ocean has won a libel suit filed against him by his father. Calvin Cooksey, Ocean's dad, had filed the claim in response to a 2016 Tumblr post made by the famed singer/songwriter. In the post, Frank described a moment in his childhood where his dad referred to a transgender waitress by using a gay slur.

"I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn't be served because she was dirty," read the post. The singer, who has revealed that he's fallen in love with a man, posted the powerful message as a tribute after the Orlando massacre. On account of Frank's fame, Cooksey argued that the post was a form of defamation that was costing him "future financial opportunities."

A judge ruled that while "the court doesn't have to rule whether or not the statement is truthful, Calvin Cooksey still had failed to meet necessary elements to make his defamation claim." Cooksey was seeking $14.5 million dollars from his son.

Frank Ocean's lawyer, Keith Bremen, released a statement saying, "It was a super sad case. I am sorry that my client had to go through this and am glad that we could bring closure."
