A Michigan man who promised to surrender to police if their Facebook post was shared 1,000 times kept his word and not only turned himself in, but he also brought along a dozen doughnuts.

Michael Martin Zaydel, 21, was wanted for several outstanding misdemeanor warrants. On Oct. 6 he issued the challenge to the Redford Township Police Department and the officers eagerly accepted the dare, writing: "He promised us donuts! You know how much we love Donuts!" The post has since been shared over 4,500 times with nearly 500 comments.

Ten days after making the social media pledge, which included promises to clean up public school property and bring cops a dozen doughnuts, Zaydel turned himself in.

“He walked in on his own, and not only did he bring the donuts, he brought one bagel! We would again like to express our gratitude for the support of all who followed this, shared it, and left us positive feedback,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.

In a separate post on Oct. 6, Sgt. Duane Gregg and Officer Jennifer Mansfield explained their reasoning behind the challenge, saying it was “fun” and “educational” at the same time.

“It is amazing the support we get from the community,” the officers wrote. “Mr. ‘Torino’ gave us a challenge. That challenge was accepted. He may or may not be a man of his word. It is our experience everyone gets caught at some point. He has drawn a lot of attention to himself, and that makes it hard to hide from reality. The important thing to be seen here is the support of the community, and the desire to help.”

Zaydel was jailed overnight and appeared at the 17th District Court on Tuesday, according to police. It's unclear what charges he faced for the outstanding warrants.
