Following the ongoing dispute between NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem, many questioned whether the NBA would follow suit. The NFL has drawn the fury from President Trump who believes players protesting during the anthem are disrespecting the country. However, former NBA Star Chris Webber thinks NBA players have more "freedom" than NFL players when it comes to speaking on social issues.

During an impromptu interview with TMZ on Wednesday, October 18, Webber explained that NBA players don't have the limitations of speaking out on injustices. "Well the NBA has been standing for the national anthem," Webber said when asked about the ongoing battle between NFL players and owners over protesting. "But I think we have more freedom than the NFL and others. We talk about Eric Garner and Travon Martin, and you see guys wearing 'I can't breathe' shirts on the court."

While Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he would not play any of his players who do anything "disrespectful to the flag", Webber believes NBA players have a privilege to speak on issues, which seems to be unseen in the NFL. "So it's not like the NFL. We get to speak our minds, speak on social platforms. Webber said. "When you have Lebron and guys speaking out, I think its cool. So we don't have the same issues like the NFL. Its a blessing to be in the NBA, not the NFL."
