There have been reports that Colin Kaepernick was invited to the recent meeting in New York City between NFL owners, the NFLPA, some current NFL players, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Kaepernick was invited by some players, but he wasn't officially invited by the league and that's why he didn't show up, according to his former teammate, San Francisco 49ers' safety, Eric Reid.

Reid was the first player to join Kaepernick as he knelt during the national anthem to protest racism, oppression, and police brutality against black people. Reid was also present during the recent meeting and says although his friend and leader was not there, his presence was definitely felt.

"Colin is instrumental because he started the protest. he has a special place in this," Reid said. "I hope he does get the chance to go to meetings in the future. We did talk about Colin and why we started the protest so the owners could get a feeling for why we started it."

Kaepernick's lawyer, Mark Geragos, issued a statement stating that his client did not receive an official invitation.

"Colin Kaepernick was not invited to attend today's meeting by any official from the NFL or any team executives," Geragos said. "Other players wanted him present and have asked that he attend the next meeting with the goal of forging a lasting and faithful consensus around these issues. Mr. Kaepernick is open to future preparation on these important discussions."

Kaepernick continues to do charity work in the community and has filed a collusion suit under the collective bargaining agreement against NFL owners. Many have said that he is better than many quarterbacks currently in the league, but he has never received an offer from an NFL team and has not even been given the opportunity to work out with them.
