John McCain brought his in-house GOP rivalry with President Trump back into the headlines on Monday (Oct. 16). During his acceptance speech for the Liberty Medal, the long-time Arizona Senator called out the Commander In Chief. And within 24-hours of the well-received address, Trump returned the favor, by delivering a message that warns: “People have to be careful because at some point I fight back.”

“You know, I’m being very nice. I’m being very, very nice. But at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty,” Trump said in response to McCain's criticism of his policies. The President was making a special appearance on D.C. talk radio station WMAL when McCain's statement came up for discussion, prompting the President's contentious reply.

But McCain wasn't about to back down, telling reporters on Tuesday: “I have faced tougher adversaries.” Trump has been on a roll so far as clapping back at his adversaries go. During a press conference with senior senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) outside of the White House on Monday, Trump brought Hillary Clinton's name back up to blast her for showing support for those protesting racial injustice and advocating on behalf of free speech across the NFL.
