John Carlos, who raised his fist along with Tommie Smith at the 1968 Olympic games in Mexico City in one of the most iconic moments in sports history believes Colin Kaepernick's career in the NFL is done. However, Carlos thinks that his legacy will remain intact. During an interview with TMZ, John Carlos remarked that Colin's social justice stance had already made his return to the league unlikely but after filing a grievance against the NFL for collusion almost certainly closes the door on his career. He stated, "I think he [Kaepernick] would like to play in the NFL, but I don't think that will be the end result."

Carlos believes that Kaepernick's higher calling is in the fight for social justice and that his legacy will ultimately be contingent upon that higher calling. Carlos and his teammate Tommie Smith ultimately had a similar experience terms of their social justice stance undermining their (professional) athletic careers.
