Waka Flocka raised some eyebrows and stirred up debate when during an appearance on Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning this week, he told listeners that he may have Native American and European blood, but has no African ancestry as far as he knows. He'd go on to profess that only in the United States do people identify themselves as White and Black, before denouncing the move by NFL owners to make players stand during the National Anthem on account of "what this flag did to us." While some on social media seemed to understand and agree with what Waka was saying, others were dumbfounded and/or wholeheartedly disagreed.

Later on in his tour through New York City radio, Waka stopped through SiriusXM, where the topic of race and ethnicity was raised again during his spot on Sway In The Morning. Waka expanded just a bit on his assertion but remained firmly fixed in owning his identity as one of mixture, despite the impression one may get by observing his physical features.

"I'm uneducated. I'm uneducated. So, for me to sit here like a college professor, I'm wrong. I'm uneducated. I'm confused. You know what I'm saying? But I'm damn sure not Black. You not gonna call me Black," said Waka. "My grandmother is not a Crayola. No. I'm connected to a tribe. I'm from a tribe, not a country. It's a big difference."
