Earlier this week (Oct.8), Newark, NJ police made six arrests for prostitution and soliciting. The arrests were made after several complaints came from the following areas: Mulberry Street, Scott Street, Orchard Street and Camp Street. In response to the quality of life complaints made by residents, detectives conducted an investigation which led to the multiple arrests.

The individuals who were charged and arrested are Remones McDaniel, 29; Dorell Korngay,19; DeShawn Washington, 26; Zayquan R. Twitty, 20; and Yusef Husdon, 26. Out-of-town resident Derrick Benson, 25, of Hamburg was also charged along with the other five individuals.

“These arrests are due to the public’s involvement in alerting us to criminal activity occurring in their neighborhoods,” said Newark Public Saftey Director Anthony Ambrose. “Our partnership with our citizens is one of our greatest assets. We will continue to respond to and answer citizen complaints while enforcing the law.”

Over the summer, 10 women in the Newark area were charged for prostitution and soliciting in the vicinity of Hawthorne Avenue and Birks Place.

Thus far, the charges made against the six individuals stand as accusations.
