LL Cool J is the only rapper that was nominated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

The criteria for being inducted requires the artist to have released their debut album at least 25 years prior to being nominated. LL Cool J’s first album Radio dropped in 1985, making him a valid candidate for the honor. The rapper follows 2Pac, who was inducted earlier this year.

Public Enemy rapper Chuck D celebrated Shakur’s induction but felt it was premature when he heard the announcement, believing that LL should have the honor first. He took to Twitter to voice his frustrations in October of last year. “Got forever love for PAC BUT there AINT a solo rap act that should get in the RRHOF before @llcoolj I Don't care about what naysayers think,” Chuck tweeted.

“When @llcoolj entered the rap game there was NOTHING close to the blizzard he came in the game with. 1 dude rearranged records and performance.” It seems that Chuck’s words were heard by the RRHOF as LL Cool J seems like the sole hip-hop priority for next year’s induction ceremony. Other nominees for 2018 include Bon Jovi, Kate Bush, The Cars, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, J. Geils Band, and Judas Priest.
