Rising Shreveport, LA rapper Ratchet Life was shot in the head and died instantly on his way to the studio this week.

The rapper’s manager Rico Bell spoke exclusively with Vlad TV and stated that Ratchet was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” when he was killed. He also said his artist was beloved in his hometown and didn’t have any serious beef with other local rappers. “He was killing the streets man. Ratchet Life! That’s all you would hear,” said Bell. Ratchet released around 11 albums worth of material in 3 years time, according to his manager. He was also readying the release of a mixtape that featured nothing but 2Pac beats. One of these songs is currently on YouTube and has over 7k spins. Bell said he and Ratchet were mainly focused on doing shows and weren’t necessarily concerned with getting the attention of a major label. “We weren’t focused on getting signed,” he said.

Bell is also Ratchet’s cousin, and he explained how much their movement meant to their hometown. “My whole city upset about this. Shreveport. AKA Ratchet City. The whole city is upset. Everybody love the Ratchet Life. Ain’t nobody say nothing bad about him,” said Bell. “[Ratchet’s dad, the Ratchet King], he wanted me to keep going with this music. So that’s what I did. So I was bouncing around the city helping artists. And then Ratchet Life came around, and me and him started working together.” Their buzz began after they dropped a song titled “Sticky.” Bell plans to keep dropping music even though Ratchet is gone. “We got a lot of music. We gonna release a lot of sh*t. Because I know he wouldn’t want me to hold it,” Bell concluded.
