Recently, Donald Trump made comments about the NFL and the players who were taking a knee during the national anthem as a form of protest. During a campaign rally in Alabama for Senator Luther Stranger, Trump said, “We’re proud of our country, we respect our flag. Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when someone disrespects our flag to say ‘Get that son of a b-tch off the field right now! Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!’” From there, various teams responded to the president by taking a knee during various NFL games that went down on Sunday. Along with that, players locked arms with their coaches and even some of the team owners in defiance of Trump.

Now after facing major criticism from the NFL, as well as NBA players for his actions and words, Trump has responded to criticism he faced. This past Sunday, he said, “This has nothing to do with race. I never said anything about race.” Although he said nothing about race, the POTUS commented on two sports that are predominantly filled with black athletes. He went on to say, “This has nothing to do with race or anything else. This has to do with respect for our country and respect for our flag.”
