After news broke of Anthony Weiner being involved in a teen sexting scandal, it appears as if the former congressman has been hit with 21 months in prison for his crime. The 53-year-old got hit with the sentence after being on trial for sending sexual messages to a 15-year-old girl. Weiner’s sentence will find him serving 21 months as well as paying a $10,000 fine. Weiner will have to surrender himself to authorities on November 6, 2017.

According to the NY Daily News, he was initially seeking probation for the crime. The former congressman’s lawyers were painting the picture that he is sick and needs therapy for his actions, not jail time. While speaking before he was sentenced, Weiner said “I was a very sick man for a very long time. I was the adult...if I had done the right thing I would not be standing before you today.” He went on say “I victimized a young person who deserved better. I am not asking that I be trusted... I ask you for the opportunity on probation to keep my sworn oath.”

Judge Denise Cote commented on the former congressman’s actions, saying “This was a serious crime, and it’s a serious crime that deserves serious punishment. There's a uniform opinion by those who have examined him that he is an addict.
