President Trump's withdrawal of Steph Curry and the 2017 NBA champion Golden State Warriors' invitation to the White House may have thwarted their plans to meet for a vote on whether or not they'd attend the time-honored ceremony. But it wound up being inconsequential to the team's plans to visit Washington, D.C. together anyway.

Following the President's bridge-burning tweet, the Warriors organization put out a statement informing the public that Curry, KD, Klay, Green and the gang will still be hitting the road for the nation's capital; only, they will be doing so to make a statement in the face of these politically charged times. "In lieu of a visit to the White House, we have decided that we’ll constructively use our trip to the nation’s capital in February to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion — the values that we embrace as an organization," a news release issued by the team's front office read.

Hours after it had been established that Golden State settled on an alternative, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser formally invited the club with a warm and witty message. "Whether you're here to work, play, practice your First Amendment rights, or lose to our Wizards, we welcome all to visit our museums, our monuments, our restaurants, and our thriving neighborhoods if they do so peacefully and respectfully," Bowser wrote. "While you're here, Warriors, we are happy to identify ways for you to celebrate equality, diversity, and inclusion - what we call D.C. values. And if anyone ever tells you that you cannot come to D.C., tell them that Mayor Bowser invited you."
