Since releasing his newest album, 4:44, Jay-Z has seemed to embrace his role as one of the wise men in hip-hop. The album was decorated with a lot of philosophical and practical advice in the form of lyrical art. As a result of these songs and Hov's well-known success, a lot of people have been asking him about the meaning of some his messages. In the track "Family Feud" speculations would conclude that Jay was trying to bridge the gap between the new generation of hip-hop artists and some of the more traditional artists. More recently, HOV sat down with Clara Amfo at BBC Radio 1 and delved deeper into that topic. He talks about how his song speaks to the culture and says that "when we work together we're more powerful." Jay makes sure to promote collaboration among the older generation and the newer generation by calling it "divisive" and implying that we should be passed that stage.
