Knicks forward Michael Beasley has clapped back at Stephen A. Smith for saying that he must be "smoking something" and ought to be "investigated and tested for weed," in response to the recent signee's suggestion that New York now has four players who can respectively score 25 points on any given night. Beasley addressed Smith's comments during an appearance on Slam Magazine's Respect The Game podcast, where he took a shot at Smith's credibility, before defending his name.

"He's a liar, bro. I love the words he uses, I love how adamant he is, especially when he's wrong because if you're not going to stand for yourself, who is going to stand for you? Cool," Beasley said. "But it's like literally, I've sat next to guys he was on the TV talking about, and (Smith's) saying, 'Man, I just got off the phone with this guy.' And literally, I'm next to that guy he's talking about, and he says, 'Man, I've never even been in a room with Stephen A.' Why does what you say have credibility when literally everybody knows you're lying about it?"

Beasley explained that what has infuriated him about Smith's remarks is that in continuously associating him with the drug, Smith impacts his ability to leave his reputation in the past in order to seek new professional opportunities. The nine-year NBA journeyman claims to have kicked marijuana five years ago when he realized his daughter was coming of age and would soon realize what he was doing. "It's unfair to me, it's unfair to the Knicks," Beasley said of Smith exploiting his past. "Because now the Knicks look dumb for signing a quote, unquote weed head. Let guys live."
