Killer Mike, one-half of the group Run the Jewels is a longtime social justice activist. Mike is very outspoken with his political views and champions Black self-determination. During this past election that saw Donald Trump become the 45th President of the United States, Killer Mike was one of the major figures backing Senator Bernie Sanders before he was defeated by Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. It's important to note that Killer Mike is also a strong proponent of the second amendment right to bear arms. In a video uploaded to Instagram, Killer Mike is seen openly encouraging Black women to arm themselves. He discusses how his niece was recently attacked prompting his reason to alert women of the potential danger they can be subject to. Mike detailed how his niece fought off the perpetrators "hand-to-hand" until she was able to reach for her weapon. His message to women in general but Black women, in particular, that live in high-crime areas is they need to arm themselves to ward off anyone attempting to impede on their liberty. Mike ended his clip by saying if someone does attempt something slick - "LEAVE THAT MOTHAF**** DEAD."
