Recently, drug kingpin Joaquin Guzman aka “El Chapo” and his lawyers argued that the United States government violated international laws by charging him with a number of different crimes after he was extradited to the US. Now, reports are saying that the drug trafficking case against El Chapo will not be dropped. Previously, Guzman was taken from Mexico to New York this past January to face charges that include murder, kidnappings, and allegedly running a drug trafficking ring that went international.

El Chapo’s lawyer issued a statement to the press in relation to the decision made, saying “We still believe Mr. Guzman’s rights under the treaty were violated, and given that other Circuit Courts give the defendant the right to object to violations of extradition treaties, hope that the Supreme Court will decide this issue favorably to Mr. Guzman in the future.” Along with arguing that the court was not favorable to Guzman, the lawyers also questioned how the man was being treated while in a high-security Manhattan jail. According to Boston.com, his lawyers claimed El Chapo was being held in “overly restrictive” and inhumane conditions. The jail he is being held at usually holds terrorism and mob suspects. El Chapo is set to go on trial for his charges in April 2018.
