To say that Kodak Black is a controversial figure in the new hip-hop scene would be an understatement. From legal issues to dissing some of the game's heavyweights, Kodak finds a way to stay relevant in today's climate. Needless to say, his lyrics reflect some very serious conditions and cover topics that may not be safe for children. This, however, didn't stop a music teacher at Bethune Middle School in Dekalb County, Georgia from using the polarizing rapper's lyrics for a homework assignment. The assignment was to take Kodak's verse from "Drowning" and changing the explicit lyrics to something more positive. Despite what some would consider a thought-provoking assignment didn't go over well with parents causing much backlash and eventually leading to the teacher's suspension. The district superintendent chimed in on the matter stating:

The assignment was inappropriate, unacceptable and contrary to our standards. The employee responsible has been removed from the classroom and will be held accountable for such poor judgment. While we encourage teacher creativity, the expectation is that the instruction is always standards-based and age appropriate.

It is tough to say what will come as a result of this assignment for the suspended teacher.

What is your take on the assignment?
