Former NFL running back Ricky Williams had another encounter with law enforcement on Tuesday night, September 19, and this time it landed him in jail.

Fans will recall Williams being approached by police in Tyler, Texas as he lingered around his hotel parking lot to pass the time before attending January's Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award banquet. Video recordings of the incident show Williams engaging in a dispute with the officers as he begins to question whether his race had anything to do with them questioning him.

Early reports of Tuesday's encounter indicate the circumstances being different, with Austin police pulling Williams over on the 4400 block of Manchaca Road at around 10:36 p.m. for missing license plates. Upon running the 40-year-old retired runningback's information it was discovered that he had two outstanding warrants that were traffic related. By 2 a.m. Williams had paid the fine money he owed and was released from his place of detention at Travis County Jail.

While Williams' professional career brought him international fame as a star on the Saints, Dolphins and the Ravens throughout his 11 years on the football field, he's always been held in high regard the Lone Star State, as a former college football star with the University of Texas Longhorns.
