Philadelphia Eagles' defensive lineman Chris Long has announced that he will be donating his first 6 game checks toward a Charlottesville scholarship fund. Long, a native of Charlottesville and product of the hometown University of Virginia Cavaliers, is looking to rebuild his town's reputation following the civil unrest that occurred during the "Unite the Right" white supremacist rally. Chris Long has a history of being politically outspoken. Long made news when he was a member of the New England Patriots and refused to attend the ceremonial Champion's White House visit to see Donald Trump. This season with the Eagles, Long has supported his Black counterparts during their respective National Anthem protests as well. The Chris Long Foundation will provide two Charlottesville area students from the Boys & Girls Club with a scholarship worth an all-expense paid education for up to seven years.
