Cleveland Cavaliers star Iman Shumpert takes his rap career very seriously and believes he’s better than the Portland Trailblazer’s Damian Lillard.
Shumpert recently sat down with DJ Akademiks on Everyday Struggle and discussed his aspirations as a rapper. “I’m seriously doing [rap],” he said when asked if he makes rapping a priority. “I don’t think y'all realize I got hundreds and hundreds of songs. I really wake up and see words. I’m good with words.” Shumpert went on to state that writing has always been one of his strengths told stories about him finessing his teachers to allow him to write papers instead of taking tests in high school and college. He also told Akademiks that even though Lillard is on the rise in the rap game releasing songs with Lil Wayne, he still thinks he’s the top emcee in the NBA. When asked by Akademiks if be believes he raps better than Lillard, Shumpert replied “Yeah, but Dame has a different lane. Dame is in that Meek Mill, Nipsey Hustle, inspirational bars, ‘Imma stay in this cadence, this is my bag, you know a punchline is coming.’ You see what I’m saying? But he not gonna walk you how Imma walk you.” Despite declaring his lyrical supremacy, Shumpert said he’s not in competition with Lillard even though the public has pitted them against each other as rapper/athletes.
