Seattle has a new slot open for a job as the Mayor, as their current Mayor Ed Murray has resigned from the position after another child sex-abuse allegation has surfaced against him. According to CNN, this is the fifth allegation that has raised against him, with this one coming from his own cousin. His 54-year-old cousin came out to Seattle Times, saying that the former allegedly forced him into having sex when he was 13 while they lived in his mom’s house in Long Island, New York.

In the past, Ed Murray denied the allegations against him, but the latest allegation seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Murray issued a statement, saying “While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business. To the people of this special city and to my dedicated staff, I am sorry for this painful situation.” With the announcement of Murray’s resignation, that means Council President Bruce Harrell will be set to become the Mayor of Seattle. Harrell has up to five days to decide if he will take on the position as Mayor for the remainder of Murray’s term, which concludes in December 2017.
