Recently, ESPN put out their top rankings of NBA players for 2017-2018, and the list seemed to shake up fans and players alike. ESPN ranked rookie Lonzo Ball at number 63 over Carmelo Anthony at 64, despite the fact that Ball hasn’t played his first official NBA game in the regular season yet. Since then, Carmelo has responded to ESPN with his own thoughts about Ball being ranked over him. Anthony said “Can’t make sense out of nonsense! ‘A certain darkness is needed to see the stars.’ @ESPN Don’t be so Blatant with the disrespect #LineEmUp.”

From his tweet, it is clear that Anthony views Ball being put one spot over him or at all as disrespect. This isn’t the first time Melo was vocal about feeling weird about his ranking from a publication, as SLAM put him at number 15 in terms of the Top 50 best players in the past, which caused him to respond as well. Melo ended up saying “It’s disrespect.” He then went on to say “I should be mad at the person that send it to me. I think they were sending it to me more as motivation. I wasn’t actually upset. I looked at it and [thought] it was disrespectful… I’m self-motivated. I don’t really need that to motivate me, someone sitting at a desk at Slam.”
