News broke last Wednesday that New York radio personality Craig Carton had been taken into custody on charges of conspiracy in a massive ticket-resale Ponzi scheme to pay off gambling debts.

Carton, known as a highly opinionated shock jock, had a morning radio show with much calmer co-host Boomer Esiason. He's been accused of stealing over $5 million from a hedge fund and others by allegedly pretending to have access to tickets for big-name acts which he would resell at a big profit.

One high-powered lawyer told the NY Daily News that Carton's facing a serious uphill battle.

"The thing about the federal government, the Department of Justice is the biggest law firm in the country, and they put in a tremendous amount of time and energy before they go out and slap someone," said Richard Roth of the Roth Law Firm. "But he's innocent until proven guilty. His lawyers have said it's a complete misunderstanding of the business, and if he has some defense, he does have a shot. But it doesn't look good."

New York Giants quarterback Geno Smith was less than sympathetic about the news of Carton's legal troubles. The quarterback tweeted "Throwing rocks and try to hide their hands.... The universe has an amazing sense of humor!"

Smith, who's been the target of Carton's rants in the past, further expressed his sentiments on Twitter.

"Same guy who was calling me a thug on some lame radio station was running a Ponzi scheme?? Funny how life works, can't believe these fools!", he tweeted Tuesday afternoon.
