So far, Hurricane Irma has found many displaced, with others trying to stay safe in the storm. However, some have found their ways to stores to loot according to reports. NY Daily News reported that looters in the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida cleaned out a shoe store while the storm was going on. In a video that was captured by WPLG ABC 10 News, nine people can be seen running into a Simon Sportswear store and taking items. Someone busted one of the windows to the front entrance of the store, which allowed the looters to go back and forth from Simon’s. Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione issued a statement on the looting, saying “Going to prison over a pair of sneakers is a fairly bad life choice. Stay home and look after your loved ones and be thankful they are all safe.”

Police went on to note that another store was hit by looters on Sunrise Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale. The Cash America Pawn shop was raided during the storm. Because of that, the police force in surrounding areas in Florida has taken to Twitter to draw the line in the sand. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office tweeted “ATTENTION LOOTERS: Every incident will be investigated. Evidence collected will be used to pursue charges after the fact.” The Pembroke Pines Police Department went on to tweet “Any looters who come to Pembroke Pines will be greeted by our officers. Choose wisely and stay home.” Watch above.
