In preparation for one of the largest Hurricanes in recent history, Airbnb has graciously offered free housing to those seeking shelter from the storm in Florida and Georgia. Hurricane Irma is predicted to completely devastate Florida after causing havoc in the Carribean, destroying 95% of St. Martin and leaving Barbuda virtually uninhabitable. Luckily for the islands of Puerto Rico and Cuba, they were able to escape most of the damage from the 175 + mph winds that ripped houses from foundations and snapped trees twigs. According to Airbnb, Residents with homes in Irma's trajectory can look for "free lodging" on the website where it has set up $0 listings section for volunteers lending their properties.

Airbnb has a strong history of advocating for their fellow man, combating various discriminatory laws, setting up a Disaster Relief Fund in 2012 which recently helped house Houston residents during the chaos that was Hurricane Harvey. 'Our thoughts are with everyone who might be impacted by the storm, and we thank the dedicated government and emergency response personnel who are keeping our communities safe,' a representative for the company had to say. While Airbnb is out of free listings, it is hoping to receive more generous donations from homeowners looking to make a difference.
