The blockbuster trade that took place between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics found Kyrie Irving going to the Celtics, while Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and more were sent to the Cavaliers. Since then, it was noted that the trade might be on hold because of Thomas’ current hip injury. According to league sources, the Cavs felt that the Celtics “undersold” them on the extent of Thomas’ injury, and how soon he could play in the upcoming season.

Since then, Thomas has addressed all of those reports, as well as his injury status. Via an interview with ESPN, Thomas said, “I am not damaged. I’ll be back, and I’ll be the same player.” Thomas also noted that his injury would not affect his career long-term, saying, “There's never been an indication that I wouldn't be back, and there's never been an indication that this is something messing up my career. Maybe I am not going to be back as soon this season as everyone wants me to be, but I'm going to be back, and I'm going to be the same player again. No doctor has told me anything different than that."
