As boxing fans gear up for the forthcoming Mayweather vs. McGregor bout in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions owner Oscar De La Hoya had some choice words on the fight, saying that its disrespecting the sport.
The legendary boxer took to Twitter this past Friday evening (Aug. 25) and continued to speak out against the fight while promoting Golden Boy’s upcoming Canelo vs. Golovkin bout, a fight which many fans consider to be the “real” boxing spectacle.
“FUCK YOU #MayweatherVsMcGregor BOTH OF YOU ARE DISRESPECTING THE SPORT OF BOXING #CaneloGGG Sept 16th” he wrote.
While De La Hoya has since deleted the tweet, UFC president Dana White managed to capture a screenshot of his comments and posted them to his Instagram account. He apparently took offense to De La Hoya’s brash remarks and viciously responded in a caption saying, “WTF?!? Is this guy snorting coke and drinking booze again??!? #OscarDeLaArum.”
This would not have been the first time the two have locked horns over the controversial bout. In May, De La Hoya wrote a lengthy open letter in regards to the fight and claiming to protect the sanctity of boxing, calling it a “circus”. White responded in an interview with TMZ Sports, calling him “two faced”.
The Mayweather vs. McGregor fight will take place tonight Aug. 26 at 9pm EST on Pay Per View. The superfight between Canelo and GGG will take place also in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 16 on HBO Pay Per View.
