NBA YoungBoy walked away from his sentencing hearing on Wednesday [August 23] with 250 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine for his role in a drive-by-shooting last November. His plea of guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm also got him three years of active supervised probation with a 10-year suspended prison term behind it.

Prior to confessing to the reduced charge in May, AI YoungBoy was facing two counts of first-degree attempted murder for the crime. He had been identified as a shooter in an incident that was allegedly sprung in retaliation for a couple of shootings that left 18-year-old Keondrae Ricks dead.

“Fortunately, you all were bad shots,” District Judge Bonnie Jackson told the rapper, after admitting that she was not pleased with the circumstances of his case. Jackson would strongly reprimand YoungBoy and tried to give him a sense of the danger he has brought upon himself and the community given his lifestyle. She even imparted a few words upon the young rapper, stating, “Your genre has a lot to do with the mindset people have. Your genre has normalized violence.”

Jackson warned YoungBoy, who at 17-years-old is a father of three, that making another bad choice could put him behind bars for the long haul. She even seemed to suggest that his living environment doesn't convince her that he is setting himself up for success, saying, “You know how much killing is taking place in New Orleans,” about his new digs across Louisiana. “Baton Rouge isn’t much better. That’s the environment we’re living in,” she then said concerning his place of birth.
